Mens Fashion : How To Dress Smart Casual
We all know what is considered appropriate dress for a corporate office or upscale social function, but many of us are still confused about what constitutes a flattering casual wardrobe that we would wear during lunch with a business partner, or meeting up with some friends at a local restaurant. Since we spend much more of our time in situations like these, it makes sense that we should re-evaluate our collections of shirts, skirts, pants and other accessories and learn to put together outfits that appear polished but informal.
Nearly everyone in America owns, or has owned a pair of denim jeans. This clothing item was invented in America and a pair of jeans has become a mainstay of pretty much all wardrobes. Most people consider the humble blue jean an item of clothing that is only appropriate for the most casual of functions, but the truth is that jeans come in many different styles that can be dressed up or down to fit in beautifully with almost any kind of function. A good pair of jeans, properly cared for and paired with other clothing items of high quality can be the most versatile part of your wardrobe.
When looking for a pair of dress jeans you want to find a light pair, preferably with a slightly brown or gray tint to them. This color works best in the summer, and can easily be paired with lighter colored short-sleeved shirts and polo shirts. This style of jeans also works well with footwear such as loafers or sandals, and even screen printed t-shirts can look sharp when paired with them.
For a youthful appearance, consider donning a mock turtleneck. They have become increasingly popular over the years and are now offered in a variety of styles – from zip-ups to jersey knit. V-neck sweaters are another great choice, depending on your own unique style. They easily create a scholarly appearance, especially if paired with a collared shirt. Whether your preference is merino wool, acrylic, or something in between, there are an array of designs to suit your budget and style. For a truly chic, yet intelligent look without reaching for the suit and tie, pair either the mock turtleneck or the v-neck sweater with a sleek pinstripe blazer or a sedated herringbone jacket.
Even though there is plenty of casual wear that is acceptable and still looks professional, there are also several articles of clothing that should be avoided completely. Avoid anything that is branded, do not wear shirts that prominently display a band or movie or anything like that. A small logo on the chest, especially if it is the clothing company’s, is fine, but try not to look like a walking advertisement. Another thing to avoid is shorts, they are really for the beach or around the house. If you absolutely need to wear them go for wool or cotton shorts as opposed to sports shorts.
