Cold Weather Makeup Advice
Have you ever noticed how much harder it is to put on your eyeliner and mascara when the weather turns colder? When it gets colder, your mascara can be a little stiffer coming out of the tube making a smooth application next to impossible. Maybe your eyeliner seems to be almost frozen solid. It doesn’t take much to make your eyeliner harder which makes putting it on really difficult. Colder weather can pose a few problems for eye makeup application, but I have a few makeup tips that I’ve learned and I hope will you apply your eye makeup a little easier this winter.
It’s bothersome when your eyeliner is too cold to apply correctly. The key is to warm it up! Your body heat can come in handy and can help you warm up your eye makeup products to just the right temperature. If you place your eyeliner right next to your hip – inside the elastic on your pants – your body will naturally warm up the product to the proper temperature for application. It only takes a few minutes and I usually let it warm up while I’m washing my face or doing my hair.
The same trick works for your mascara. If mascara is too cold when you are trying to apply it, it is often thick and too many of your lashes will stick together causing the “tarantula” look to your eyelashes. To avoid this problem, you can use the same technique as used with the eyeliner. Simply allow your body temperature to warm up the mascara. I find that the mascara usually takes just a little bit longer than the eyeliner to warm up so you’ll want to factor that into your time to get ready.
Curling your eyelashes is also an important step in many womens’ eye makeup routines. In the winter, your eyelash curler is often ice cold. I would recommend warming it up as well during the colder months. Just like your hair curling iron, your eyelash curler will work much better when it’s slightly heated. I sometimes use my body heat to warm my eyelash curler.
Sometimes, when I am in a time crunch, I use my blow dryer on low heat just for a few seconds. If you use your blow dryer to warm up your lash curler, make sure you test it first with your finger to make sure it’s not too hot since your eye is such a sensitive area. Hopefully, with these tips, the cold of winter won’t make a difference; you’ll still look your best.
